North Tyneside has its first Young Mayor!
Olamide "John" Akinropo, 15, from Burnside Business and Enterprise College, was elected by the young people of North Tyneside as their new representative.
A total of 8,628 young voters took part in the poll - out of a possible 14,541. This 59 per cent turnout is the highest ever recorded for a Young Mayoral election. Well done North Tyneside!
John received 822 first preference votes and 260 second preference votes, giving him an overall winning total of 1082 votes.
He said: "I'm really pleased to be your Young Mayor, and today we are all winners. You don't have to be Young Mayor to make a difference."
Kyle Myers, also 15, from St Thomas More High School, received 719 first preference votes, and 298 second preference votes, and was runner up with a total of 1017 votes.
