Nahimul Islam, 15, from Wapping has been elected as the new Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets.

He will be supported by deputies Tasmina Khanum, 15 and Nadeem Miah, also 15.

Chief Executive and Returning Officer Kevan Collins announced the results at the Young Mayor inauguration ceremony at the Town Hall on Wednesday (26 January) evening.

This year, the Young Mayor elections saw a record turnout, with 52.4% of 11-18 year olds casting a vote, double the turnout at the adult mayoral election in October 2010.
