Term: February 2013 – February 2014

Megan Sylvester

Young Mayor: Southend On Sea

Youth Mayor Elections are held annually to elect the Youth Mayor & Deputy Youth Mayor and are a huge annual event for the Youth Council in Southend.

The Youth Mayor and Deputy Mayor lead the Youth Council and set the agenda for the campaign work in the year ahead.  They are elected on the basis of the manifestos and campaign work that they undertake between October and February.  The post holders are invited to attend many prestigious events and hold chains of office.

What we plan to do while in office:

Megan (Young Mayor) & Chris (Deputy Young Mayor):

Current plans include:

Our main aim is to try and change the way youth are perceived in Southend. We will be achieving this by holding activities throughout our term of office aimed at specific target groups to try and encourage intergenerational acceptance and understanding.

We are also working to create a youth section in the Echo newspaper, celebrating the achievements of young people in Southend.
