Term: 22nd May 2013 - 22nd May 2014

Kieran Sawdon

Deputy Young Mayor: Bridgend

I'm currently 17 years old and I live in Bridgend County Borough. I’m currently doing 5 A levels: History, Geography, French, Health and Social Care and Welsh Baccalaureate. I've been a member of Bridgend Youth Council since November 2010 and I became a cabinet member in December 2010. In August 2012, was elected onto Funky Dragon, the children and young people's assembly for Wales. I have been a member of Funky’s Sustainable development and Climate Change steering group, and in July 2013 I was elected as co-chair for Funky’s Environment portfolio. Apart from that, I’m just a normal teenager!

Improving the link between Bridgend Youth Council and Bridgend County Borough Council – we believe that to make a profound positive impact on the lives of Bridgend’s youth, the Youth Council and the BCBC need to have a strong link in order for the voices of Bridgend’s youth to be heard.

Publicizing youth democracy in Bridgend County Borough – we believe that for the Youth Council to be able to do its job properly, young people need to know how we work and how they can get involved in order to have their opinions listened to and respected.

Bridgend Youth Council has 3 sub-committees to tackle for 2013-14 - smoke-free playgrounds, substance misuse and transport. Smoke free playgrounds has achieved its goal of creating a system of discouragement, substance misuse are working on publicising available facilities, and transport aim on making Bridgend’s transport more accessible to young people.
