Young Mayor: Islington

I am an ambitious and dedicated individual who strives to do the best in everything I commit to. The youth council in this sense is very important to me and I believe it is the best way to give young people the power they rightfully need. I am an A Level student, studying at IC6 and am the Young Mayor of Islington. Our youth council now work with the young people in Islington in order to give them the best head start in life.

What I plan to do while in office:

While in office I plan to focus on making progress with the following:

Young people need to be given more power in commissioning the services which directly impact on them.

Decision makers need to make sure that before money is spent on services, that the providers are able to demonstrate a track record in offering youth work opportunities and that they should be required to say how they are going to do so in the future.

Providers should be expected to co-produce youth services with young people in order to create an offer that is in line with young people's needs and aspirations.

The main focus for the youth council is to develop detailed plans with actions and activities connected to the 4 priorities we have identified as important to young people.

The 4 priorities are as follow:

•             Youth provision

•             Youth employment

•             Health and wellbeing

•             Career and education planning
